About the Author
Why the Road Forks represents the intersection of my narrative exploration and lived experience. As an author, my journey is defined by the stories that emerge when both when I stop thinking, and when I think far too much. The best ideas come when you stop thinking at all, the best lines come when you think so hard your brain goes blank. This platform is a sanctuary for those who seek depth in a world built like a kiddie pool, a perhaps a bit of community and understanding in a society that expects you to do everything yourself.
Myself, I hail from North Carolina, and I started writing like most people do, when my English teacher said my creative writing assignment was moderately better than the other ones in the class. As a kid with terrible self-esteem, I ran with that as far as I could go. My first novel, Revelation, was published in 2018, and my second novel, A Dream of Change, will be out on 3/1/2026.
My mission is to connect with readers through a shared love of stories, bother the lived and the imagined. We all make up stories in our heads, for good or ill. Let's share them.
Sincerely,
Richard Welch

Philosophy in the Park
I can't predict the future, but I'd guess on this day I'll probably be giving a spirited lecture on Kierkegaard and the nature of individuality to a few bums and pigeons in the park.
